I feel your feels. My grandfather and one of my high school girlfriends both died of suicide in 2011. One on January 15th and 1 on April 2nd. It is a different kind of death that doesn’t go away. It’s a different type of acceptance. When we lose a loved one because of a heart attack or cancer we have the why. It still is unbearable to lose someone we love but we have the why and the grieving process seems to go smoother. In my life I have come to find that every suicide or attempted suicide brings back all of those emotions from the morning I got the call about my grandpa and then the vacation I was on when hearing about my friend. It’s a different hurt but I relive it with every person that goes through this experience. Thank you for sharing your heart. My heart is with you, your family and your in-laws. May the Lord bless you and keep you safe and loved until he is ready for you to come home.

Carissa,
Thank you for sharing this. Your vulnerability, love, honesty, and strength are an example for all of us. My family has been impacted by the loss and grief of suicide many times. Thank you for making it okay to talk about. The silent struggle that so many people are going through is real and very difficult (particularly for tough male athletes who are trained not to show vulnerability). Thank you for encouraging us all to love more and judge less…just like Jesus did on the cross for all of us! We love you guys!

I’m so glad you shared this about Andrew. I knew him from his days playing junior hockey in Sioux Falls. We have so many stories about Andrew that always bring a smile to your face. He was always so happy to see you whether it was when we saw him after a Duluth game or when he helped out at Stampede tryouts in Minneapolis. I would love to know how to get some AC20 gear.

I lost my brother to suicide 11 years ago- and your comment of people grieving in character is so true! And you don’t move on, you move forward. It’s wonderful your family had the insight to use this moment to try and understand CTE and help others. You’re keeping his memory vibrant and present. God Bless. ❤️
