A Letter from Dad: Saad
Dear Olivia,
You are loved, and you are perfect. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. I hope you always know that.
Having you in my life has made me a more fierce protector, a more abundant provider, and a more boisterous cheerleader. I’ve always tried to be those things with your older siblings too, but you’ve brought out something even deeper in me as your dad. You’ve taught me to celebrate the unique giftedness each child has. So often we compare our children’s “wins” against their peers, but you’ve shown me that every child should be celebrated for reaching their own full potential.
Watching you walk for the first time was one of the proudest moments of my life. You struggled for so long gaining the strength you needed and overcoming early medical complications, so when you finally walked on your own, it was emotional knowing how much you had overcome. Moments like that remind me how strong and determined you are.
Some of my favorite memories with you are the simplest ones. Recently, you asked me to dance ballet with you, and you refused to let me opt out. I’m so glad you did. It was such a joyous moment. You copied my every move and loved being twirled around. It was one of those precious moments where my little girl just wanted to dance with her daddy. I can’t say no to your dance requests anymore.
You bring a cheerfulness into my life that I never want to lose. Ever since you were born, I’ve experienced so much joy in the simple moments, not just with you, but with our whole family.
I also want the world to know that we’re more alike than different. Being your dad has the same ups and downs as raising any other child. Sure, the unknowns can be scary sometimes, but that’s true of raising any kid. What matters most is how deeply loved and celebrated you are.
When you were diagnosed, I worried your diagnosis might create separation between our family and our community. But through Jack’s Basket and events like Burgers & Baskets, I’ve watched our community embrace you and our family beyond what I could have imagined. Jack’s Basket is helping show the world what I already know: that you, Olivia, are worthy of celebration.
Love, Dad
Saad’s daughter, Olivia, received a basket in 2023, and his family has been big supporters of Jack’s Basket ever since. From hosting a Burgers & Baskets fundraiser last summer to appearing alongside our founder, Carissa, on The Kelly Clarkson Show to share Olivia’s story in celebration of World Down Syndrome Day, we are so thankful for Saad’s endless enthusiasm for the mission of Jack’s Basket!
